This is a photo was captioned, "Pfc. Angelo B. Reina, 391st Inf. Regt., guards a lonely Oahu beach position. Kahuku, Oahu." Rosenberg, Hawaii, March 1945. 111-SC-221867. It is in the National Archives collection. I was mesmerized by the full image. The photo is haunting. I then noted that the photo was taken by Joseph Rosenberg, the same photographer who took the iconic shot of the flag raising at Iwo Jima. It's a great shot, and it, too, shows the barbed wire on the beach. Kahuku is on the windward side of Oahu going toward the North Shore. There was a radar station (Opana) in Kahuku.
The only information I could find on Angelo Reina is that he was listed as being from Utica, New York in the National Archives.
